Karate Kun - Morals of the dojo

HITOTSU - JINKAKU NO KANSEI NI TSUTOMERU KOTO – One: To strive for the perfection of character

Karate at Seishin Ryu is more than just physical exercise or learning how to punch, block or kick. It's a journey of personal growth. Training begins with practicing and repeating techniques to build skill, but it quickly becomes about much more. Karate teaches perseverance - the ability to overcome not just the challenges of training, but the challenges life brings. It's about striving to be your best self, both inside and outside the dojo.

HITOTSU - MAKOTO NO MICHI O MAMORU KOTO – One: To defend and follow the paths of truth

Following the path of truth means living and teaching a life of honesty, integrity and continual improvement. At Seishin Ryu, we believe the spirit of karate is not about walking this path alone. It is about helping each other to grow and succeed, putting the welfare of others alongside your own personal development. True karate is a shared journey.

HITOTSU - DORYOKU NO SEISHIN O YASHINAU KOTO – One: To foster the spirit of effort

At Seishin Ryu, we value dedication and commitment above all. Fostering the spirit of effort means giving your best at all times, regardless of circumstances. Success in karate - and in life - cannot be achieved without sustained and wholehearted effort. Every moment on the mat is an opportunity to push yourself further.

HITOTSU - REIGI O OMONZURU KOTO – One: To honour the principles of etiquette

Respect is at the heart of all we do at Seishin Ryu. Training always begins and ends with etiquette. Following dojo rules, bowing correctly and showing respect to your instructors, your fellow students and yourself, is essential. True karate spirit is reflected not just in how we train, but in how we live our lives with honour and humility.

HITOTSU - KEKKI NO YU O IMASHIMERU KOTO – One: To guard against impetuous courage

Karate training gives you powerful tools - and with that comes great responsibility. At Seishin Ryu, we emphasise the importance of emotional control. Karate must never be used recklessly, to prove a point, to show off, or to harm others. True strength lies not in fighting, but in knowing when not to fight.
